First, read (below) what Gibson said about this limited-edition guitar. This is 250 of 500. This small block incarnation of the fabled ES-335 is dear to the hearts of many great players, and youll find its full mojo embodied in the Rich Robinson ES-335. Built to the original ES-335 semi-hollow design with a body made from maple laminates and a solid center block to cut feedback and enhance sustain, this is one of the most adaptable electrics on the planet, excelling at anything from jazz, to pop, to country, to flat-out Black Crowes-certified rocknroll. Richs preferred neck profile makes it superbly comfortable to play, and theres a little extra real estate at the 1.711-wide nut to give you plenty of room to roam. Load in a BurstBucker 1 at the neck and a slightly hotter BurstBucker 2 at the bridge, dress it all in a luscious aged-Cherry finish given Gibsons exclusive VOS process, with gently aged and period-correct nickel hardware, and pack it in a brown hardshell case with plush charcoal lining and Certificate of Authenticity, this is a classic ES-335 youll want to get your hands on right away. The guitar was repaired by me using some techniques I have developed over the years specifically for Gibsons. Small holes are drilled from the first key holes and then into the neck about 2 inches. I then shape and bend two hard wood dowels and then insert them with epoxy bringing the neck and headstock into. The headstock is then glued under pressure and heat for several weeks to assure proper curing. I then apply a veneer to the back of the headstock, inlaying the veneer, instead of overlaying it so that it gives the guitar extra strength and the neck doesnt feel repaired. Glued again under heat and light pressure for several weeks. I clean it up and put it into my curing room for several months while I work on other projects. I then touch up the repair using about 20 micro-coats of nitro oxblood lacquer, buffing it smooth. Then back into the curing room for another couple of months. The neck is straight, and as solid as when the guitar was built, and it plays great, just like it was meant to. This is one of the best 335s ever made by Gibson and this guitar will be a bargain. But you wont — you will love this guitar as well as the price. There is some cosmetic damage to the front of the headstock (some cracking of the black holly) and the truss rod cover is missing the bottom screw hole. Basically, with the VOS finish it look like a well-loved and played 50-year-old guitar. The item “Gibson Rich Robinson ES 335 limited edition no reserve” is in sale since Sunday, March 20, 2016.
