Rare Oxblood Finish Custom Shop Les Paul
Custom shop Les Paul in rare oxblood finish. This is a “regular” les Paul custom, made by the Gibson custom shop, not the Jeff Beck reissue. It is a beautiful guitar. It does not appear to be 100% original; most of the gold plated hardware has been swapped out for chrome. The selector switch trim and the input jack plate may be original, as they have the gold finish. Looks like graphite saddles were added. My tech says that the nut does not look original either. This guitar has some play wear. There are a couple finish cracks on the headstock. Nothing that goes into the wood. There is also some imperfection along the binding near the knot. The electronics cover in the back is cracked. There are some miscellaneous small wear marks and scratches around this guitar. It is a player. I tried to capture all of this in the photographs. When I bought the guitar it had two pretty significant finish imperfections. The first was the face of the headstock, which had a finish issue that is common to Les Pauls. I believe it is a result of the clearcoat lifting away from the headstock or slightly delaminating. I didn’t take any pictures, but I have seen it on other Les Pauls in the past. It also had a pretty sizable ding on the front of the guitar body just under the bridge. It did not go through the finish, but made a couple large indentations. I had both of these defects fixed by the legendary Marty Bell of San Diego. He is a master of guitar finishes and brought the headstock face and the front of the body back to their original state, with a perfect color matching of the oxblood finish. It is a gorgeous dark, dark reddish-brown color, and looks black in most lighting conditions. The guitar has been recently set up by San Diego’s best tech (Fred of the Repair Zone). Probably very close to 11 pounds. Comes with an SKB case in used, but reasonable condition. No original case or case candy. Serial number upon request to serious buyers with good feedback. Description above says There is also some imperfection along the binding near the knot. Sorry, I was dictating this description into my cellphone, and Siri heard me wrong. Near the nut, as you have all probably figured out. Just want to be clear. I’ve been asked several questions about the authenticity and history of the guitar. To the best of my knowledge, this is an authentic, USA made, custom shop Les Paul custom. But here’s what I can tell you. It has been to my guitar tech, Fred, of the Repair Zone in San Diego, twice. First for the setup and headstock repair, and then again for the body finish repair. Fred is the top tech in San Diego, and does work for just about every guitarist in town. I didn’t ask Fred if he thought it was authentic, but I do believe he would have told me if he was suspicious about any part of it. He’s worked on it twice and only complimented me on what a badass guitar it is. He has a lot of high end guitars, including many Les Pauls. Serial number indicates guitar was built by the Gibson Custom Shop in 2009. I don’t know what the fingerboard is made of. It’s dark and fast. I have no idea what pickups are in the guitar. They may not be original, since they have chrome covers and I believe the guitar was born with gold hardware. But they do sound great. Also, I don’t know if all of the pots are original. I know one of them is not, because Fred replaced it when he did the original setup. I believe it was the neck tone pot and it was not functioning when I bought the guitar. It’s beautiful and it’s a heavy, wicked instrument. The item “Rare Oxblood Finish Custom Shop Les Paul” is in sale since Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
