But please if you are not familiar with this instrument and its advanced electronics then go online and check out the available manuals and posts of owners that help explain the full on range of this exceptional and relatively rare Gibson Custom. Beautiful 1979 Les Paul Artist–I like to collect first and/or last year issues of guitars in the belief that a company puts the most effort and engineering into making them the best and 1979 was the first year Gibson made this one. It’s been completely gone over by my luthier–the sophisticated and truly innovative Moog electronics work perfectly with no noise–the range of sounds is difficult to imagine until you plug it in but this guitar can sound like the sweetest jazz instrument–truly gentle and evocative with crystal clear string intonation and then change to a metal monster with a flick of a switch–it was way ahead of its time and cost too much to make for what they could charge so only lasted 4 years with production dropping each year. It’s rare to find one in this excellent original condition with the original chain saw case also in excellent condition with no weird or unpleasant smells. Cosmetically you can see it is in wonderful shape with a few swirls which it required the flash to bring out–minor worming–no buckle rash–original all the way including the frets and back plates and the headstock and neck are very clean–the neck angle is perfect–intonation spot on and the truss rod works as it should with plenty of room on the saddle for adjusting the action which is currently set at my preferences at 3/32nds at the 12th fret–the fretboard is ebony and the nut is the original brass nut and consequently the sustain is unbelievable–it weighs in at about 10 pounds but is very well balanced and doesn’t feel that heavy when playing it. There is some isolated very minor chipping at the heel in one spot which is shown in the scans–from a few feet away it presents like a store demo and not the 40 year old instrument which it is this year.
