1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior Vintage Electric Guitar P-90 with Case, Jr
Up for sale, a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior, complete with 100% original parts and an early, soulful example of one of Gibson’s most enduringly popular models. The sound is everything you expect a great Junior to be, and the solid Honduran mahogany construction delivers an acoustic voice that is extremely authoritative and clear. Lightweight and lively at 7lbs 4oz, the instrument feels very substantial when you dig in hard, with a distinctive sparkling top end due in part to the aluminum wraparound tailpiece. For sweet P-90 single coil tone that can range from chiming, dynamic sparkle to roaring, all out raucousness through your favorite tube amp, this guitar has a versatility and tonal depth that belies its simple yet elegant appointments. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and currently strung with 11-50 strings, this guitar has low, comfortable action. The one-piece mahogany neck has a. Nice round baseball bat C profile carve with ample shoulder and imperceptible taper up the board, measuring. 915″ deep at the 1st fret and 1.010″ at the 12th. The extremely dark and tight-grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original slender “banjo” fretwire, and these frets. Have full factory height and are truly in remarkable shape considering the instruments vintage, showing w. Ear beneath the plain strings, more prominent near the nut and growing fainter until fret 11. The scale length measures 24 3/4″, and the original nylon nut measures 1 11/16″ in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with their original white buttons. The original serial number is still vibrant and clearly inked on the back of the headstock, along with the gold silkscreen Gibson logo and “Les Paul Junior” script text on the headstock’s face. The headstock does exhibit an older repair, with the d. Iagonal V-shaped fracture extending to the headstock face and wrapping around the bass side wing. Professionally addressed and structurally sound, the repair is stronger than the wood was originally and very stable at full string tension. The original electronics work as they should, and the stock P-90 meters at 7.88k ohms. The original IRC tone pot is currently installed along with the grey tiger tone cap, and the volume pot is a modern replacement (original also included). The original pots date to the 14th and 18th weeks of’55. The lightweight aluminum wraparound bridge is intact, along with the original pots, and the inserts have been replaced with the longer style introduced later in the’50s ensuring no forward lean and optimal stability and tone (original bridge inserts also included). The original P-90 cover, pickguard, back plate, jack plate, strap buttons, and amber bell knobs are all present and extremely clean. Cosmetically, this guitar shows its fair share of consistent use from the past 65 years with v. Arious finish chips and dings on the parameter of the slab body, with more concentrated wear central to the back and at the bass-side waist. The Sunburst is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and there’s q. Uite a bit of red in the burst and sparingly little fading, with some mottling of the aniline dye on the bass side lower bout of the top. The finish does show v. Ery tight microscopic shattered glass lacquer checking across the top, bisected by broader horizontal checking. Scattered marks along the profile, with two spot fills with touchup central to the profile carve behind frets 3 and 5, and wear along the top headstock edge as well. A circa 1970s Gibson black tolex hardshell case with purple plush interior is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
