Here’s a 2016 Gibson Les Paul 60’s Tribute in a clean satin Honeyburst finish. It is in excellent condition and has light playwear. There’s a ding along the top edge and the back edge and some light pick marks on the pickguard – and that’s about it. It has a fresh set up with d’addario 10/46’s and is ready to go! She weighs 9.1 lbs with a slim 1960’s neck. The pickups are Gibson P-90’s – machine wound 10,000 times with 42 gauge copper wire. The Les Paul 60s Tribute 2016 T includes all the essential elements needed to rock in classic style. The authentic vintage-style finishes present the look of a well-played original, while the instrument’s unbound body and fingerboard add a fine minimalist touch. The top is super clean – see pics. The back has some light finish marks where it looks like it rested on something – near the control cover. The previous owner dulled the gloss coating on the back of the neck for a smooth, fast feel. The frets are in excellent condition and the rest of the finish is very clean. She weighs a svelt 7.3 lbs. Up for sale, a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop 1957 Custom Shop Historic reissue in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This extremely well kept instrument is from Gibson’s top of the line VOS series and is the “Darkback” version with a deep glossy brown nitro lacquer finish on the back and neck profile Well balanced, notably light, and acoustically resonant at 9lbs, this Les Paul is an absolute powerhouse, with a particularly chunky baseball bat C shaped neck profile that adds significant body to the tone. The nitro lacquer goldtop is near flawless in terms of cosmetic condition with some light, natural lacquer checking that has occurred over the past decade, and the classic combination of a carved maple top and solid mahogany body has never sounded better. The Burstbucker PAFs deliver a tone that is extremely dynamic and nuanced, with rich harmonic content and clarity across the tonal spectrum. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this Les Paul is strung with fresh 10-46 strings and features low, slinky action and solid intonation. The neck has the aforementioned positively huge “baseball bat” C shaped profile, that fills the palm and chords comfortably. A neck this size really benefits the tone of the guitar, as the majority of the string is resonating above this portion of the instrument, and with a good piece of quartersawn mahogany like we have here, the resonance and power is undeniable. The shoulders of the profile are quite generous, and the binding is the perfect shade of yellowed cream. The rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark and straight grained piece of rosewood which is inlaid with pearloid trapezoids. The stock fretwire retains its full, original height and shows very limited wear, with light wear beneath the G and B strings on fret 2-3, and fainter flattening of the crowns beneath those same strings until roughly fret 7. The frets have ample height and life, with no buzzing or dead spots. The headstock has all of the hallmarks of a true’50s instrument, with the thin holly veneer, 17 degree angle, and Gibson Deluxe tuning machines that perfectly mirror the look of vintage Klusons. All of the electronics work as they should, with the original Burstbucker pickups, pots, and Bumblebee tone caps. Cosmetically, this is a very clean instrument, with great color in the nitro lacquer shade of gold on the top and a deep brown shade of mahogany on the back that puts this guitar firmly in “darkback” territory. There are a few very light finish scratches in the clear coat of the nitro on the back of the guitar, and a couple extremely small nicks around the headstock edges. The carved maple top shows lacquer checking consistent with a genuine vintage example, and it’s the kind of natural patina that gives this particular Goldtop a very genuine look. Tonally, the benefit of this guitar comes with its age, even if it has lived most of its life safely tucked away in its case. It does have a warm and resonant quality typically not attributed to a “new” instrument, and the nitro lacquer has had a chance to settle into the pores of these classic tone woods, allowing the sound to open up in a way that can’t be duplicated.
