Here is one of those unicorn guitars–a Gibson es-335 with an ebony fretboard as well as the Tim Shaw pickups. It’s all original and i believe the Gibson logo case is as well–the case is in excellent condition with no bad odors. There are pundits who say Gibson didn’t make any but i’ve owned two and seen more as well as seen photos online of another handful. I called Gibson and was routed around to an old timer who confirmed sub rosa that indeed a few went out like this–here is one. My luthier–who worked as a neck specialist for Guild all through the 70s and builds his own guitars took me to his wood stash and showed me the various ways ebony looks–some are bowling ball smooth black but others have chocolate streaks and some others have streaks of light gray–all against a black background–the ebonized rosewood does not look like this–he confirmed that this fretboard is ebony. So other than that this guitar has the fantastic Tim Shaw PAFs which are modeled after the original humbuckers from the early 60s–they are wonderful pickups that i prefer even to the t-tops and completely over the 59s or burstbuckers. Cosmetically the guitar has been played but not abused–there is moderate to light checking–dings and swirls and scrapes–no real buckle rash to speak of — nothing through the finish– but the guitar is not a showroom condition guitar–it’s a working instrument and shows it–the heel joint is rock solid–the frets in great shape–the board smooth and the binding though discolored in a few places is in good shape as well. It has been freshly luthiered– set up with 11s and is ready to go right out of the box. Plays and sounds wonderful. For sale here we have a beautiful 2016 Gibson Memphis Faded Light Burst ES-335. This one really is a stunner; it looks and plays beautifully! Its fully original with no modifications. Nice dark rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, which always looks classy on 335s. Neck is dead straight truss rod checked and functioning fine, frets fine; its never been refretted so still has the fret-end binding. Has a comfortable thicker neck, with a good solid 59 profile. Its beautifully balanced & weighs in at 3.7kg. Never had any breaks, repairs or mods. Very clean with no notable blemishes, just very light playwear. It is complete with its original tan Gibson HSC, Certificate of Authenticity booklet and assorted other case candy. Case is functioning fine and in excellent condition. For sale is a 2004 Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue in Cherry with a non-original case. This guitar is in very good condition and in perfect working order. There are some scratches, ding, and some wear on the back. Overall, I would rate the condition, a solid 8.5 out of 10. Everything on the guitar is original. The neck is straight with no issues and plays great. The original frets are in excellent condition with no wear. There is no buzzing or dead spots. The non-original case works great. 2001 Gibson ES-335 Dot Neck in a beautiful gloss cherry finish. Nice subtle flame that is actually pretty prominent on the back. This is NOT a studio model or a satin finish. The G string Grover tuner is slightly bent, but it functions just fine. Holes from the Bigsby remain. If youre into the Bigsby, I can have it reinstalled. The bridge and tailpiece have been lightly aged. The stock nickel covers and black bell knobs are included. I can also have those reinstalled, if youd like. Has a slim but not too slim neck. Frets are in great shape. This guitar is really a dream to play. Sounds great acoustically too. Hate to let it go but I just dont play it enough to justify keeping it.
