This listing is for a very cool Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Class 5 Model electric guitar with a beautiful flametop and the highly sought after Burgundy / Cranberry finish. In the pictures, the camera flash makes the color and finish look lighter than it actually is. In normal light the Cranberry color looks darker. As you can see, it looks a lot like one of the Cranberry Slash SnakePit models but without the Smokin Snake graphics. So you could add the graphics and have a real nice Snake Pit copy. The factory original Gibson Art And Historic Custom Shop hard shell case is also included. The case is wore and has one broken hasp on the back but all of the other latches work, so it will stay shut and protect the guitar. There’s also a lock in the side of the case so you can secure your guitar while it’s being stored or transported and the key is included. The tuners have been upgraded to Grovers and the Buzz Feiten Tuning System was added. You can Google Buzz Feiten to read all about it. We’ll also include a Certificate Of Authenticity. The COA that we have is blank, so you’ll have the option to fill in the model and serial numbers on it. And that’s not to mention the Custom Shop case as well as the COA. Gibson only made these Les Paul guitars for a few years. Class 5 refers to the AAAAA maple top, which is (supposedly) a step up from a 1959 Les Paul Standard ReIssue with a AAAA top. The tops are usually highly figured or quilted and they look incredible. Spec-wise, the guitar is weight-relieved and not chambered so it still sounds great. With the factory relief holes in the body, it weighs in at just 8.6 pounds which is at least two to three pounds less, than most of the Les Pauls. That includes the Killer K tops or even the hand picked M2M custom ordered Yamano models or the Tom Murphy Aged Custom Shop Les Pauls. This guitar was made in 2001 and like any 18 year old used vintage instrument, it’s not perfect. There are some very small minor dings in the top and on the edges but nothing major. Otherwise, the guitar looks great and it’s still in excellent condition. We rarely get in Class 5 Les Pauls, like this one. W hoever buys this beautiful guitar, will be very pleased. This guitar has light playwear – and is in pretty nice condition. The top is clean and glossy with just a few light indents and some light haze where your arm rests. The back has some light clear coat micro scratches – see pics below. The neck is straight and the frets don’t have any significant playwear. No headstock breaks or repairs – she has the original 490R & 498T pickups as I recall, volume, tone, 3 way. All the electronics work well. She has a 60’s neck profile and weighs 7.9 lbs on a digital scale. Here’s some details. GIBSON introduced the LES PAUL DC STANDARD (LPS2) in 1998. The Les Paul DC Standard is a double cutaway version of the arched-top Les Paul with two humbucker pickups, similar to the Hamer DC design from the 1970s. The DC Standard has 24 frets, single master volume/coil splitter and tone controls and’60s-style slim taper neck profile. Some suggest that these newer 24-fret carved top doublecut Les Pauls were Gibson’s response to the success of PRS in the 1990s. From the Golden Era of Heritage when the 4 Masterbuilders from the late 50’s were still working hard hand building premium guitars in the original Gibson plant at 225 Parsons St. Using many of the same 100+ year old machinery this guitar was even painted in the same spray booth as the 59 Les Pauls. I thought it was a honeyburst because of a hidden guest that showed up during the pics – look at the 5th pic and you’ll know why. It is in good condition and has light/average playwear. She has a fresh detailing, deep cleaning and set up. The frets were polished and the fingerboard cleaned and moisturized with an instrument grade lem-oil. Set up is with D’addario 10/46s and she plays beautifully. The top is glossy and clean but does have some light indents and average type of visible playwear when looked at closely under the lights. The back and sides have some light clear coat scratches and small marks. The frets don’t have any significant have playwear and the neck is in excellent condition. It has Suhr Thornbucker and a Thornbucker + pickups, the plastic bridge ring has a crack in it. The original pickups are long gone. She still has the original Gibson wiring, splitters, pots and caps. The serial number is 02151516 – which dates to August 3rd 2001 -and the pots and pickups are all original. Tuners are the original Grovers as well. The front, back, sides and neck were waxed and buffed with a high grade carnuba wax. The frets were polished and the fingerboard was cleaned, buffed and moisturized with an instrument grade lemon oil. It was set up with 10/46’s, adjusted and plays very nicely. She has a medium 50’s neck profile and weighs 10.3 lbs on a digital scale. Comes with the original Gibson hardshell case and pickguard as seen in the pictures.
