An incredibly attractive guitar with breath taking flamed Maple back and sides, Rare Blonde finish, Spruce top, Gold Hardware, F-hole label intact, 17 inch wide body, and Abalone & Pearl fretboard inlays. Pre-1970s X-500s are very hard to come by and were made in much smaller finely crafted quantities. They are excellent instruments that rival Gibson’s best. The guitar displays light play wear with a small spot of belt buckle wear that has been touched up on the back of the body. Overall a fine example. 1960s Grover Tuners installed years ago. Original Hoboken, NJ “Ghost” logo label marked “FACTORY SECOND” – No idea why. Nothing is off on this guitar. Standards may have been higher back in1960 when archtop guitars were made by hand in Hoboken.. No cracks, breaks or repairs. There is minimal binding shrinkage as shown and green aging, finish cracking and crazing to the sunburst finish as is typical of this period of Guilds. See the color of the back when photographed in direct sunlight (green) vs the interior photo (brown). Neck / heel junction is perfect. Action is low and adjustable and guitar does not buzz. You may wish / have to set up the guitar to your specific geographic location which may have different humidity than here in Michigan. Your playing preferences may also dictate a higher or lower action and as with any instrument will have to be set up to accommodate your preferences. The guitar plays beautifully and looks stunning. Individual note and chord articulation is crystalline. A very well-balanced jazz, blues, rockabilly and western swing machine. Original Lifton hardshell case with pink plush interior. Wear to exterior of case as shown. No structural integrity problems with case, just cosmetic wear. All retaining lid silk straps inside the case are attached and intact. Slight separation of plush. This is an authentic Vintage 1966 Guild Starfire V in excellent condition with original hard case. Everything functions as it should, and is all original. You will be hard pressed to find one in any better shape. The Starfire V came with double cutaway, semi-hollowbody, block fret inlays, Bigsby tremolo, and a master volume. The ONLY imperfection worth mentioning is a small amount of binding shrinkage shown in the photos. Normal mild wear and tear, especially considering its 50 years old! This is simply one gorgeous instrument in every way–the sunburst is deep and subtle–shading from black through orange into violet especially under the lights–it is in near mint condition–what i’d call excellent with the scans showing what small blemishes will show uo–from 3 feet away it presents like a collector’s guitar. The sound is also equally big and beautiful–the HB1 pickups that Guild is rightfully so famous for are exceptional and this instrument is able to cross genres effortless from Jazz to Blues–to Rock to Country without sacrificing tonal reach–none of this is hyperbole–every player of the X-500 speaks so highly of it. My favorite time for Guilds is the time of George Gruhn and Kim Walker–i have Nightbirds and Bluesbirds as well as DV70 and a D-70 all designed by those luthiers and everyone is exceptional–so when i bought this 500 i looked for one from that era.
