1959 Hofner President Natural Blonde. This is a vintage 1959 Hofner President electric guitar in Excellent condition. The President was Hofners top of the line archtop and was distributed in Great Britain by Selmer from France. George Harrison played one when he joined the Beatles. Carved spruce top and laminated maple back and sides. Binding on the body and neck, inside the f-holes and on the headstock. One non original tuner bushing. 2 original black bakelite adjustable pickups and original knobs and switches. The neck is straight and the frets are in excellent condition. The electronics all work well. Judging by the small holes that were drilled in the top, there have been some modifications that were later removed. Some wear near the knobs and under the compensator tailpiece. Other than that this guitar is in excellent condition for its age. The width at the nut is 1 11/16″ and the scale lenght is 25.4″. This is a very nice and rare Hofner model 173 made in Germany c. Body is covered in the original red snakes skin style red vinyl with a cream division. There are a couple of places where the vinyl has shrunk and could. Possibly be reglued if required but with no damage. The black scratchplate contains the three Hofner pickups – the neck and middle pickups. On/off switch and there are two volume and two tone controls. The bridge is adjustable. With sliders for intonation changing and there is also a mute fitted. Tailpiece is complete but there would have been a plastic tip on the arm which is missing. The maple neck is bolted on and there are double dot fret markers – there are twenty-two. The headstock has the original tuners and ferrules and the”Hofner” logo. Thing it could do with fairly soon is a replacement nut as this one is worn. This is a rare and very nice guitar and is original – it is also a very nice playing.
