This is a very nice and rare Hofner model 173 made in Germany c. Body is covered in the original red snakes skin style red vinyl with a cream division. There are a couple of places where the vinyl has shrunk and could. Possibly be reglued if required but with no damage. The black scratchplate contains the three Hofner pickups – the neck and middle pickups. On/off switch and there are two volume and two tone controls. The bridge is adjustable. With sliders for intonation changing and there is also a mute fitted. Tailpiece is complete but there would have been a plastic tip on the arm which is missing. The maple neck is bolted on and there are double dot fret markers – there are twenty-two. The headstock has the original tuners and ferrules and the”Hofner” logo. Thing it could do with fairly soon is a replacement nut as this one is worn. This is a rare and very nice guitar and is original – it is also a very nice playing. PICKUPS ARE PRIBORA HOT CUSTOM HANDWOUND PICKUPS. ASH BODY IS AFTERMARKET. THIN SKIN NATURAL NITRO FINISH. THIS GUITAR HAS A SPECIAL TRICK UP ITS SLEEVE- KEEP READING BELOW FOR MORE INFO. GUITAR WEIGHS IN AT ABOUT 8 LBS! Very thick beefy tone with great sustain on this guitar. THE WARMOTH NECK IS BRAND NEW. IT HAS A SMOOTH SATIN TINTED NITRO FINISH. 8 (20.82 mm), 12th Fret. 850 (22.86 mm). Lots of interesting sound option with this one. As this is a Hardtail Stratocaster, I wanted to add a few extra sound options to make up for the lack of the trem. The top Tone knob is actually a 6 way tone switch that provided different tone and Cocked(fixed) wah settings AS WELL AS Series and Neck/bridge or all 3 PICKUPS “ON” options. (The cocked wah tone mod isolates the mids and compresses the signal). Note: standard tone and volume control are on at all settings. Rotary Position 1 the rotary switch is in true bypasses mode. Everything works as a standard Strat in this configuration (other than the single master tone knob). Rotary Positions 2,3 and 4 give you different levels of the Cocked Wah tone mod and affect all 3 pickups in their standard positions on the 5 way lever switch. Rotary Position 5 Gives you Neck and bridge in parallel in position 5 on the lever switch and all three pickups are on, in position 4 of the lever switch. Rotary position 6 Will give you the neck and middle in series in position 5 of the lever switch and middle and bridge in series in position 1 of the lever switch. The other Tone knob is a master knob for all pickups with a Russian oil and paper. Everything has been tested and functions perfectly. This guitar Plays and sounds great.
