The first was the Slash Snakepit 1996 transparent cranberry red flame maple top. Model Name: LP SLASH – shape: 59 Les Paul Standard – construction: set neck – neck: mahogany – body: , cream white binding – Dunlop 6100 jumbo 22 frets, 24 3/4″ scale, Trapezoid inlays, cream white binding – electronics: Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro 2, Amber knobs, 2 volumes, 2 tones, toggle 3 way selector – hardware: Chrome Stop Bar bridge & tailpiece – logos and serials: — front of headstock: Gibson Logo with Slash chrome truss rod cover — back of headstock: Gibson standard 9 digits serial number “SL XXX printed in black – colors and other features: cranberry – notes: This guitar was made by Gibson on Slashs own demand. It features cranberry finish with Slashs Snakepit logo, snake inlay across the whole fretboard, and two Alnico Pro II humbuckers. Slash get the first four including the prototype, the only one with the carving on the body turned 90 degrees to be viewed right side up when displayed on a guitar stand. In 1998 Slash’s studio was broken into and his guitars were stolen, including 3 of them (also the “Snakepit” prototype). Today Slash has only one of them. These guitars are by far the rarest and most collectible of any of the Slash Signature Les Pauls. Slash: I had Gibson make this for in 1996 or 1997. It was the Snakepit guitar and it’s got the embossed Slash logo on it and the snake inlay in the neck. It’s a gorgeous guitar – I only have one of those and they’re very rare. This is one of the best-off guitars that I’ve been involved with. There weren’t a whole bunch of them made. Right when it came out of the case it had a really good, aggressive rock and roll sound. I still use it very so often. I’ll take it out on tour, and I use it for slide a lot, so I keep the action up a little bit more. Basically I keep the action medium so that if I need to play slide, it’s set up that way, but if I use it for refular fretting, it won’t be so obnoxious that I can’t use it. A (mother of pearl) snake inlay covering the length of the ebony fret board , with Seymour Duncan Alinco 2 Pro Pickups. Some aging showing on the top coat finish around the control knobs and a few minor marks on the back side , this is to be expected on a 19 year old instrument but no repairs apply to this instrument, which has been storied properly in a environment conducive to the instruments appropriate state or condition for the best play-ability.
