Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, well maintained, professionally setup, and very original. Featuring a vibrant original Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish, this Les Paul’s burst highlights the well-matched seams on the three-piece carved maple top. Tonally, the original patent stickered mini humbuckers in this Les Paul deliver a round sound with great definition and punch. A perfect blend of humbucker and single coil tonalities, the mini hum’s tonal properties are enhanced by the maple/mahogany body construction with both wooly bark and great treble articulation. Additionally, the mahogany neck seen only on earlier iterations of the model keeps the tonal profile inherently warmer and fuller. Acoustically, the instrument has healthy projection, and the tone is singing and sweet. The top end snaps and sparkles, while the low end stays tight and focused. We’ve had this Les Paul professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece mahogany neck has a notably slender C profile carve at the nut, quickly gaining plenty of meat and shoulder, filling out with ample chunk as you travel up the fretboard. 790″ deep at the 1st fret, graduating to 1.010″ at the 12th. The original wide/flat Gibson fretwire is intact, having been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime and currently showing no wear. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlay and the nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone, measuring 1 11/16 in width. The headstock has been fitted with a set of modern, reliable Grover Deluxe Kluson-style tuners with lightly aged green tulip buttons. These tuners perfectly match the footprint of the original gears and provide superior stability. The headstock has a small volute on the back as well as a clean Gibson logo and “Les Paul” silkscreen text on the face. The guitar did at one time experience a headstock fracture, professionally repaired both structurally and cosmetically, with gloss nitro lacquer overspray across the headstock joint and extending up the profile a bit and to the back of the headstock. The repair is invisible, smooth to the touch, and structurally reliable. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a wiring harness that retains all of the original CTS pots, dating to the 37th week of 1974. The original tone caps are intact, the solder joints are untouched, and both stock pickups are intact with the original patent number stickers on the baseplates. The original patent number ABR-1 bridge and chrome tailpiece are both present, along with the original quartet of reflector cap knobs. The Cherry Sunburst on the top is very bold, and the bass-side third of the top has light curly flame figuring. Lenty of dings and scuffs across the back and lower bout body edge, with s. Ome shallow pinhead-sized marks on the bass side of the top and light scuffing on the treble side of the pick path. The original black tolex hardshell case is included. This case retains the faint “Gibson” silkscreen on the lid, along with a couple stickers, and the case features all of its original latches and a viable handle. Up for sale, a 1972 Fender Rosewood Telecaster in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. A stunningly clean example, this Tele is from the tail end of the original rosewood variant’s production run, with the lighter chambered body used on the rosewood models from 1971-72. Still a hearty instrument at 9lbs 2oz, the instrument is made entirely of rosewood, with the original gloss finish and small strip of maple central to the body where the large bookmatched pieced of rosewood meet. Ever since George Harrison slung a Fender prototype of this model over his shoulder for the rooftop concert, the Rosewood Telecaster has been a focus of fascination, with sparingly few original examples produced, far from satisfying collector and player demand. Offering a clear, bell-like sound acoustically with a complex and present top end character, the Tele also delivers a balanced, broad low end, and the range of tones through the original pair of pickups is wholly unique. The instrument has healthy sustain and a smooth, rich sound thats very sonorous. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and dialed in with fresh 11-50 strings, this Rosewood Telecaster is ready to be played and displayed. The one-piece rosewood neck features a maple skunk stripe, with a C shape that has lots of shoulder and an inviting, substantial feel, measuring. 885 deep at the 1st fret and. 965 at the 12th. The original frets are intact on the gloss-finished rosewood board, and the slender wire shows notable, uniform wear on frets 1-9, with sparingly little wear further up the board. The gloss fretboard finish is exceedingly clean, with one small finish chip on the treble side edge at fret 5, and a minor scuff near the pearl dot at fret 7. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive, and the neck has needed little adjustment in its lifetime, with a truss rod nut that’s flush with the neck heel. The original nut measures 1 5/8 in width. On the headstock, the original set of F tuners are intact with clean plating, and the tuners still turn smoothly. The original Fender waterslide decal is intact as well, with localized overspray exclusively on the headstock (presumably done to preserve the logo, which has greened and aged modestly). The hardware is extremely clean, with the original patent number bridge plate, barrel saddles, and knurled knobs. The black pickguard is original and an extremely interesting piece of plastic with only the faintest shrinkage on the back edge. The back of the guard is a mottled grayscale tortoise, identical to Fender’s earlier red tortoise but a swirling of grays and whites. The guitar retains its original clear gloss finish, highlighting the incredible grain of the rosewood and glassy and gleaming in a way few vintage guitars can match. There are just a couple shallow nicks on the edges of the slab body, and a few small scuffs and a nick or two on the edge of the treble-side body horn and also where the forward strap button mounts. There are also some exceedingly faint swirling marks on the back where the original poly was buffed to a mirror shine. The neck profile has only one small nick on the treble side of the profile behind fret 9, and is otherwise extremely smooth. A vintage, era-correct Fender hardshell case is included with a small logo on the exterior and orange interior. The case shows heavy wear on the black leather ends, yet still retains all three original latches as well as the handle. Up for sale, a 1978 Ovation Magnum 1 electric bass guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original case. 100% original aside from a new quartet of knobs, this Magnum bass was superbly overbuilt and crafted in New Hartford, CT, designed under the highest scrutiny at a time when Ovation was pushing to carve out their own solid body niche. The bass is incredibly sturdy and sonically versatile, with Stereo and Mono outputs, a set of specially designed Ovation pickups, and an oversized Brannock Device bridge. With a graphite-reinforced solid mahogany body and neck, a thick slab ebony fretboard, and set of half round strings, this bass offers a consummate blend of natural thump and punch. The Magnum pickups are designed for high output, tonal versatility, and a balanced response. Due to the copious metal hardware and solid construction, this bass weighs in at a hefty 10lbs 2oz. Professionally setup here at Mike and Mikes Guitar Bar, this Magnum is dialed in with half round strings, spot on intonation, and comfortable action. The graphite-reinforced mahogany neck has a comfortable medium C shape with rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring. 835 deep at the first fret and filling out to 1.028 at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features a 9 1/2 radius and the stock flawless fretwire. The scale is a full 34 long and the nut measures 1 9/16 in width. On the headstock, the gold Ovation logo is present along with a set of chrome Ovation-branded tuners that turn smoothly and hold their pitch well. The pickguard features a replacement quartet of knobs, and there is a small pickguard repair at the output jacks. Under the hood, the wiring harness is untouched, with original solder joints on the CTS pots which date to the 11th week of 1981. A large aluminum bezel spaces the pickups and provides a stable thumb and finger rest. The proprietary tailpiece is bolted to the body and features a functional string mute system with original foam still intact. The individual adjustable sliding brass saddles have reference scales on the bridge for easy intonation and adjustment recall, with a very Brannock Device aesthetic. The original Walnut gloss finish on the bass itself is glossy and clean, with wear through the black plating on the aluminum hardware. There are some expected minor nicks and faint scratches on the body, mostly relegated to back and lower bout. Plays great, barely played after refret mid-80’s. Not buzzy, has tremendous natural sustain. Electronics/pickups appear to be all original. Frets, fingerboard in great condition. Case shows normal wear, interior is decent. Non-original gold plated bridge. Non-original Mighty Mite brass tailpiece. Non-original Schaller Gold Plated tuners. Pickguard has small crack at screw as shown. There is what appears to be a fracture on the underside – treble side of neck. Up for sale, a 1970 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An exceptional Black Beauty, this Les Paul has a chunky, late 50s-style neck carve and weighs in at a mere 9lbs 11oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, we’ve dialed in this Les Paul Custom with fresh 10-46 strings, optimal intonation, and low action. The three-piece mahogany neck has a surprisingly deep C shaped carve, and this shape is typically associated with Les Pauls from 1957-58. This neck has a true “baseball bat” C shape with generous shoulders and plenty of heft. 887″ deep at the first fret and 1.098″ deep at the 12th fret. The original very slender “banjo” fretwire is intact on the ebony fretboard, which also boasts multi-ply binding and pearl block inlays. The frets have been leveled and are in “fretless wonder” territory sitting very low, yet still extremely playable. The frets currently show zero wear and play cleanly in all positions. The original nut measures 1 11/16 in width and the headstock is fitted with genuine vintage waffleback Kluson tuners. These tuners work in their original fashion in that you tune up to the note and they hold pitch well, slackening easily when you tune down. A different set of tuners was once fitted on the headstock, with no additional screw holes and original bushings fitting easily without modification. There are indentations from larger washers around the original tuner bushings. On the back of the headstock, the guitar sports its original serial number and “Made in USA” stamp as well as a volute, consistent with the era of production. The guitar also has a faint “2” stamp, denoting a Factory Second for some small finish flaw that would be indiscernible from honest playwear over the past nearly five decades. The “pancake” (two-piece) mahogany body is capped by a piece of maple that has a nice deep dish carve. There is consistent flame figuring across the entire top, visible under certain lighting through the thin Ebony nitro lacquer finish. The electronics consist of original patent sticker T Top humbuckers with original covers that show untouched solder and intact stickers on the baseplates. The hardware consists of an original patent number gold ABR-1 bridge and vintage, yet not stock gold stopbar tailpiece. The witch hat knobs and switch ring are original, while the truss rod cover, three-way toggle switch cover, and pickguard are modern, factory-spec replacements created and aged by MojoAxe to perfectly match the patina of the instrument. In terms of cosmetic wear, the guitar show moderate vertical lacquer checking on the body, and the 100% original nitro lacquer Ebony finish lights uniformly under a blacklight (a common way to verify a finish’s originality) with no touchup or overspray. There is heavy buckle rash on the back, an assortment of pinhead sized nicks on the body, and one small finish chip in the multi-ply binding on the bass side edge of the headstock. The neck profile is extremely clean with only a couple of the faintest indentations, and the guitar is structurally sound with zero repairs, cracks, or things of that nature. Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Stratocaster in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Pre-CBS Strat is an incredible example of golden era Fender craftsmanship and 100% original aside from a professional refret and new bone nut. Featuring untouched electronics, a thick slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and a vibrant and virtually unfaded original nitro lacquer three-tone Sunburst finish, this Strat is a prime example of the pinnacle of Fender quality and tone. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 8oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-50 strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile that has a bit more depth and roundness to the profile in the higher registers of the fretboard than you traditionally expect in a Strat from this particular year. The gloss nitro lacquer on the profile also has very light and consistent palm wear down to the smooth, bare maple, making for a quick and effortless playing experience. The Brazilian rosewood slab fretboard sports original clay dots and a recent professional refret with 6105 fretwire which has the same width as vintage wire, yet with a bit more height and crown for longer fret life and easy bending. The new frets show virtually no signs of use and. There is only a touch of wear into the rosewood itself beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The fretboard retains its original 7 1/4″ radius, and a new bone nut has been carved measuring 1 5/8″ in width. On the headstock, the original single line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines and a flawless Stratocaster logo are present. The heel of the neck has all of the original markings with a clear and unfaded “2May62B” noting the model (2 for Stratocaster), year and month of production, and “B” (1 5/8) nut width. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should with a trio of black bobbin pickups mated to the original Switchcraft three-way toggle and original Stackpole 250k pots. The pots date to the 18th week of 1962, and the pickguard shield is signed by “Aurora, ” the Fender employee who wired this guitar a half century ago. The mint green pickguard is one of the nicest examples we’ve ever seen with zero cracks, sparingly little shrinkage, and a nice saturation of the mint color. The vibrato unit is 100% stock and complete with pat. Pending saddles and the original vibrato arm. Currently utilizing four springs, the vibrato actuates very easily, with a notable touch sensitive response and stability. From quick flutters to more drastic dives, this vibrato unit works just as designed and the trem block is an integral part of a Strat’s sustain and tonal character. The guitar retains its original nitro lacquer three-tone Sunburst finish, with sparingly little aging and a prominent central red ring to the burst. The finish shows zero touchup or overspray and is remarkably vibrant. Cosmetic wear is limited to s. Ome light pick scuffing above the waist of the guard on the bass side, as well as a few small finish chips on the bass side lower bout edge where the forearm crosses the top. There are a few requisite small nicks and scuffs as well, along with patina on the bridge saddles, but as the photos show, this guitar will delight the most discerning collectors. This is truly a fantastic Strat in every sense of the word, and the black bobbin pickups resonating through an old alder body and Brazilian rosewood board is truly something to behold. The strong acoustic character of the instrument translates perfectly through your favorite Tweed or Blackface amp, and this Strat chimes and sparkles with the best. Very original, meticulously examined and ready to be played, this Strat is not to be missed! The guitar shows virtually no wear further up the fretboard and the guitar plays cleanly in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots. The original bone nut is intact and measures a full 1 3/4 in width. On the headstock, the guitar has features in line with its top ranking (and price point) among Gibson electrics in the late’40s, with binding and pearl inlaid script Gibson logo and crown. The tuners are a set of early’50s Kluson Deluxe no-line tuners (which replaced the original open back gears) which turn smoothly and hold pitch well with newer aged tulip buttons. On the body, the guitar features the original stamped nickel tailpiece, and this tailpiece is unique as it was not produced in-house at Gibson like most of their hardware. Chock it up to metal shortages during the war and Gibson gearing back up post-war to produce new electric guitars. The original tall, numberless speed knobs are intact as well and have a simple Art-Decoesque look. The bridge is a new compensated rosewood factory-spec replacement, as is the pickguard, which is a four-ply guard cut by MojoAxe to original specs for a late’40s ES-300. Cosmetically, this guitar is in remarkable shape as the photos show, with zero cracks. The nitro lacquer finish is 100% original aside from a s. Mall amount of targeted lacquer touchup for a few tiny screw holes where a larger input jack plate was added and subsequently removed (now virtually invisible). There was no appreciable reason for this plate and the mahogany around the jack is very solid. The guitar exhibits a. Few faint finish scratches and expected small nicks as well as light, vertical lacquer checking on the top. The neck profile has a c. Ouple shallow finish chips behind the 9th fret, and otherwise the profile is very clean. The original hardshell case is included. Up for sale, a 1958 Supro Rhythm Master “Val Trol” in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Weighing in at 8lbs 6oz, this is a first year model and a 100% original example save for a new bone nut and repro pickguard (original also included)! This guitar has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with comfortable, low action and a fresh set of 11-50 strings. The neck has a chunky V profile that retains a fullness and heft all the way up the fretboard, filling the palm nicely and fretting easily. The fretboard sports block inlays and original slender fretwire which is in great overall shape, having been recently leveled and crowned and currently showing only a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. A new bone nut has been carved for the instrument, measuring 1 11/16 in width, with ideal string spacing for easy chording and accurate lead work. On the headstock, the small, metal “Supro” badge is intact and in great shape with blue lettering. The original gold Kluson single-line tuners all turn smoothly and still hold pitch well with Supro’s signature “tulip” tuner buttons. On the body, all of the stock electronics work as they should, and the pair of single coils in oversized gold covers deliver full, well-rounded tones with a balanced EQ response and a bit of twang on the top end. The electronics are untouched, with original solder joints and Stackpole pots. Aside from a new pickguard sourced via Pickguardian, all of the original hardware is present, including the trapeze tailpiece, switch plate, switch tip, Dakaware Master Volume knob, and “lightning bolt” Brazilian rosewood compensated bridge. In terms of cosmetic wear, this guitar retains its 100% original nitro lacquer finish with a vibrant and unfaded three-tone sunburst, which shows wear through the layers of the burst and down to the bare maple around the rounded edges of the body. There is also some honest playwear through the finish along the treble side edge of the neck profile and behind frets 1-3. A previous owners ID number is also lightly written on the back of the headstock parallel with the strip tuners. Overall, this Supro presents very well with the sort of wear that comes from consistent use, and this well loved guitar has no serious or structural wear of any kind! The other noteworthy feature of this first year model is the unique way the body was routed. Most Supros from 1959 onward have a fairly extensive “swiss cheese” routing from the backside of the body, but this Rhythm Master has clean and minimal factory routes that logically follow the wiring layout. The result is a Supro that has a more solid and resonant body than 99% of the vintage examples on the market! The original hardshell case is included. Up for sale, a 1963 Gibson SG Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A true holy grail instrument in every sense, this SG combines the inherent warmth and power of a solid mahogany body with the attack and articulation of an ebony fretboard for an ideal tonal pairing. The guitar is dynamic and soulful, and when you strike a chord the entire instrument responds with a lively spank and rumble. As per spec for early’63, the pickups consist of three original hand-wound humbuckers, one still retaining the PAF sticker, while the other two have early patent number stickers on the baseplates. The results are astounding, with incredible bark and sweet, glassy articulation in the down position, contrasting with a thick, throaty howl when all the humbuckers are engaged. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 14oz and balances well on a strap. Currently setup with 10-46 strings, the guitar is dialed in for optimal action and intonation. The neck has a c. Lassic slender C profile that increases modestly in depth and shoulder as you move up the board. The bound ebony fretboard retains the original frets, and these are the very last of Gibson’s notably slender “banjo” frets. These frets show evidence of sparingly little use with. Faint, uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, extending beneath the plain strings until fret 5, with virtually no wear further up the board. The headstock has all the hallmarks of Gibson’s top tier model, with multi-ply binding, split diamond inlay, and original nickel “waffleback” tuners. These tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well, and while the D tuner’s arm has a slight bend, it still works as intended. This guitar has had an all too common headstock repair, and this one notable variable is what keeps this SG well under the 20k++ range it would otherwise command. The repair was well done long ago, with no evidence of overspray at the headstock joint. The joint is structurally sound and smooth to the touch, with the conventional wisdom being that a proper repair is inherently stronger than the original joint. On the wiring harness, the original CentraLab pots are all intact, dating back to the 40th week of 1961. The original output jack and a couple other wires (removed when the guitar was reconfigured for its current setup on the three-way switch) are included in the case. All of the original plastic parts are present including the amber switch tip, black spacer, multi-ply white pickguard, and reflector cap knobs. The writing has worn off the caps of the knobs, and on the pickguard, there is a light ghosting of a couple stickers which were removed long ago. Produced early in the year after Les Paul’s endorsement ended, the newly christened SG Custom model benefitted greatly by the introduction of the long frame Maestro Lyre Vibrola, which replaced the much maligned Sideways vibrato seen on most pre-63 models. The Lyre is a very elegant piece of hardware, actuating effortlessly for dives and trills and jumping back to the original pitch with ease. This vibrato works in concert with the original ABR-1 bridge. In terms of cosmetic wear, the face of the guitar is very clean, with faint horizontal lacquer checking and a few inconsequential tiny nicks. There is modest fading of the Cherry on the top of the guitar, although the lacquer is still quite vibrant and glossy with plenty of saturation. The back of the guitar has an even more vibrant Cherry appearance, due in part to some sort of protective covering which was on the back of the guitar and subsequently removed. There is a light halo of prominent lacquer checking around where this mystery material was attached and a bit of cable worming in the nitro as well. The finish is 100% original with no signs up touchup or overspray and it lights properly when scrutinized under blacklight. The neck profile is smooth and glossy with only a couple very shallow marks, and there is modest, expected patina on the original nickel hardware. With a custom color Cherry finish, original PAF and patent sticker pickups, and a long frame Lyre vibrola, this SG Custom is a truly unique instrument and as much a perfect studio tool as it is a piece of Gibson history. The original small pebble hardshell case is included. The case is clean inside and out with a plush gold interior, Gibson badge on the exterior, original handle, and working latches. Up for sale, a 1964 Silvertone “Chris Isaak” Model 1446 in exceptional condition and in good working order. Manufactured by Harmony in the USA and featuring a stock pair of Seth Lover designed (and Gibson manufactured) split coil mini humbuckers, this is an incredibly cool guitar with quality electronics and hardware! These hand wound patent sticker Gibson humbuckers are direct descendants of the famed PAF, and the fullness and midrange focus of these pickups is fantastic, with more open, shimmering top end than a standard humbucker and bass response that is nice and tight, further improved by the hollow body. Seth Lover also designed the Wide Range humbucker that Fender used in many of its Telecasters in the 1970s, and the pickups in this Silvertone are essentially a mini humbucker precursor to that design as well. Not a solder joint is out of place, and this Silvertone is guaranteed to be exactly as it left the factory decades ago. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-50 strings and comfortable action, this Harmony-made Silvertone 1446 is in 100% original condition and is sure to delight serious collectors and players alike. The neck has a chunky C profile like your favorite’50s Gibson, with a smooth gloss finish on the back and a dyed maple fretboard with pearl block inlay and multi-ply binding. The stock frets are in incredible shape, with barely any wear, perfectly crowns, and the full original height of the frets intact. The guitar has consistently and comfortable action up the neck with no buzzing, dead spots, or fretting out even in the highest registers. In terms of nut width, the guitar measures 1 3/4 wide at the nut, but the neck actually has a deceptively slender feel in terms of overall width, given that the neck depth and fretboard width stay consistent up the neck (most guitars typically taper and get wider as you move up the neck). On the headstock, the original “Silvertone” logo is clean and intact, a rarity in itself as these logos were silkscreened instead of being inlayed and often wear away. The original Waverly tuning machines all turn smoothly, hold pitch well, and have straight shafts. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, and we thoroughly inspected the wiring harness for the purposes of verifying the originality of all components. The pots still have their original shielding cans over the date codes, and we chose to leave those intact. Both pickups have their original patent # stickers on the baseplates, and these pickups are essentially a mini Gibson PAF, produced while there pickups were still hand wound. The 1964 date stamp is also visible on the body through the F hole. The original pickguard, cupcake knobs, and diamond switch surround are in fantastic shape and are still bright white with almost no signs of age. The original B3 Bigsby also works surprisingly well, responding quickly to the lightest touch. Cosmetically, this is a particularly clean example of this fairly rare Silvertone model, with virtually no finish checking and only a few light finish scratches and nicks on the instrument as a whole. The deep gloss black nitro lacquer finish is 100% original, with no touchups or overspray. There is a very slender and professionally repaired crack extending less than 1 on either side of the input jack. Other than light play wear from gentle use over the last 50+ years, this Silvertone 1446 is in exceptional shape and very well kept. The original two-tone blonde and gray chipboard case is included.
