Per the Gibson website description of this, the 1959 Les Paul Reissue in Gloss they say that it is the most highly acclaimed, widely recognized solid body electric guitar in the world. They go on to say (paraphrased and edited) that their Les Paul Standard model from 1959 is coveted by both players and collectors as the ultimate example of tradition, playability, wooden pulchritudenousness and also tone among all six-stringed instruments. In a world populated by imitations and replicas, clones and bionic imposters, the iconic 1959 Les Paul Standard simply has no equal. Named after the late Lester William Polsfuss, a/k/a Rhubarb Red, a/k/a Les Paul American jazz guitarist, and key developer of multi-tracked recorded music the Les Paul Model became the Standard in July 1958 after company president Ted McCarty and a small circle of advisors decided to alter the designation. They also wisely chose to forego the guitars traditional metallic gold face (and sometimes back) finish for a new, more memorable color dubbed Cherry Sunburst, which allowed the natural beauty of the Les Paul Standards maple top to be showcased. The company was hoping the changes would improve its sales of solid body electric guitars, which had been declining since 1953. Item Description: Folks, this is my take on relic job. It’s a mix of hard playing, much love and artificial and extremely careful relic process. So be it as it may, there is no checking (the majority of the Original 1959 that I have seen WERE NOT checked). I added slight wear around the tune o matic bridge, I carefully applied wear to the headstock corner, I put a tiny ding on the back of the neck at the 2nd fret (cant feel it) otherwise left the neck intact, put a lot (but nothing through the finish) on the lower bout (to seem like worn by chain), left the back alone except for ultra minor and surface swirling and soft indentation by the rear control cavity. The rest is from guitar stands (by the rear strap button) and being on the floor. The frets show minimal minimal wear, the neck is straight and the guitar weighs 8lbs 11 oz and features an amazing 3D and deep flame that I rarely see today. The knobs are solid, the hardware is tarnished (but not rusted), the neck angle is perfect! Beautiful and tight Madagascar rosewood board. Upgraded CTS and Vitamin Q caps are the only modifications! The neck is straight and the action is low, the guitar sounds grand and it’s a dream to play. Minimal fret wear, nothing that needs attention whatsoever! Original hard shell case in very good condition included! The guitar is stage ready.
