Up for sale is a 2010 68RI from Gibson’s Custom Shop. This is a very rare guitar that came straight out of the factory with triple humbucking pickups & grover tuners. This guitar was further “Aced” out with incredibly rare vintage Grover Patent Pending Tuners with Pearl buttons. I believe these were used on old Martins & Gibsons from the 50’s/60’s & were the ones Ace used to put on his 70’s Les Paul guitars. These are MUCH nicer than the reproductions Gibson put out on the Budokan Reissues. Dunlop 6000 Jumbo fretwire was installed on the fretboard – just like Ace’s guitars. Also installed were Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups in the Bridge & Middle positions & a Dimarzio 35th Anniversary PAF was installed in the neck. Condition wise I’d rate this an 8.5/9 out of 10. It has some light surface dings/scratches but you have to be eyeballing the guitar looking for them to see them. Nothing goes through the finish on the front or back of body. Fretboard shows some signs of play-wear. Frets are in great shape. There is just one small chip next to strap button on the side of the guitar. This is a great playing & great sounding Les Paul. It’s light for a Custom – right around 9 lbs. Which is very LIGHT for a custom as most are 10+ lbs. And this guitar is NOT chambered. It’s a solid one piece Mahogany body with a 1/4 thk HIGHLY flamed figured Maple top. And because it’s a 68 RI it has a long neck tenon. It’s got a great neck angle as you can deck the Tailpiece and still get the strings to clear the beck of the bridge while keeping the action lower. Real ebony fingerboard (this is pre Richlite). This guitar has a nice beefy round neck on it. It’s one of my loudest Les Paul when played unplugged. It’s got that nice combo of good, light tone wood in conjunction with a big, comfortable neck. I’ve actually got photos from a couple different occasions of both Ace & the guitar. Ace supposedly played and loved this one – but I’ve no proof of this other than the original owner’s word (which I have no reason to doubt). Included with the guitar is a Black Gibson Custom Case & all original paperwork – including the Leather COA booklet which Ace also autographed. I’ll also throw in a couple of Photos I’ve had Ace sign over the years – plus some guitar picks! I hate to part with this one but have bills to pay.
