Gibson Les Paul Custom 1979 Black Beauty with Original Protector Plus Case in Mint Condition. Binding slightly yellowed as expected. This guitar just turned 40 years old. Confirms the guitar was made May 10, (day 130 of the year) in 1979 in Nashville. As you can see, it has seen very little use and needs a good home. Sat in its case for the past 12 years. The guitar was never used for gigging, just the occasional church band. I thought my son would want it, but he became a professional jazz guitarist and it’s not his vibe. All work on this instrument was done by professional luthiers familiar with electric guitars. Equipment completely original except as follows. About 10 years ago, I had the frets leveled and the instrument was thoroughly cleaned out. In the Late 90’s, I had the original pickups swapped out for Gibson Burstbuckers 59 reissue, type 1 at the neck, and type 2 at the bridge. Amazing improvement in tone. Original pickups have been saved and will be included. Burstbuckers are no longer available from Gibson. In the mid 80’s, the guitar fell backwards off a stand and a sustained a deep scratch between the 3rd and 4th tuners on the back of the headstock, about 1/8 deep and showing some wood. Being compulsive, I had this professionally repaired, and ever since the serial number is a little harder to see. Note: This guitar never had “Made in USA” stamped on the back of the headstock. Just a sticker that fell off when I was living in Alabama. PS: NO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS. Dear , Honestly, I have never taken this cover off. I did it at your request. I took pictures which I will enclose. This includes pictures of both sets of pots and a picture of the cover, which was signed and stamped by the repair services, both in Reno. I know the Guitar Hospital is out of business. Bizarre Guitar is still doing well. One of the pots just had Gibson stamped across it. Another Pot had a solder over most of the ID number, so I could not look it up. Two of the other pots had readable serial numbers which I was able to trace through guitardaterproject. Based on this, both pots were manufactures by the Chicago Telephone Company (CTS). One in the 30th week of 1978 and the other in the 2nd week of 1979, respectively. I hope this satisfies you needs. You will be hard pressed to find an instrument this old with verifiable credentials and original source documentation. They are still in business.
