Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Jazz Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Weighing 9lbs 4oz and very well balanced on a strap, this bass delivers the full, dynamic tone that has made the Jazz Bass a classic for over five decades. Of course blending the two pickups together reveals the true magic of this bass, with a tone that is balanced in the mix yet fills out the low end with a girth and presence that only comes with a great Jazz Bass. Back the tone control off a touch, or roll it all the way down for everything from brighter textures to pure, mellow Motown fullness. This bass has been professionally setup with comfortable, low action and a set of D’addario Chromes flatwound 45-105 strings. The maple neck has. Good shoulder and a nice full feel up the neck while being slender at the nut, measuring. 813 deep at the first fret and filling out to. 950 at the 12th fret. Riginal neck profile lacquer finish is worn down to the smooth bare maple along the majority of the profile with sparingly little additional wear and an extremely silky smooth feel. The truss rod nut is flush with the end of the fretboard, the neck is straight, and the October, 1966 date stamp is intact on the heel. The bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard features cream binding and pearloid block inlays, and the board has been refretted with jumbo wire that has been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime. The frets still have decent meat and show no wear. The stock nut is intact, measuring 1 1/2 in width. On the headstock, the original “Lollipop” tuning machines are intact, turning smoothly with clean chrome plating. The Seafoam Green headstock finish compliments the lacquer on the body and boasts a new waterslide decal with the correct font and patent numbers for 1966. Even the extra factory included strap button is there on the back of the headstock, seen as a transitional feature for upright bass players converting to electric. On the body, all of the original electronics work as they with original windings on both gray bobbin pickups and faint yet illegible original pencil dates. The Stackpole pots all date to the 42nd week of 1966, and the stock ceramic disc tone cap is tucked away over the tone pot just like the day it left the factory. The guard is stable and lies flat. The bass was refinished back to the original Seafoam Green by Riggio Custom Guitars, complete with the correct white base coat, lacquer checking, and simulated forearm wear. Speckling and discoloration of the finish on the back and around the lower bout edge, likely from subsequently living in its case for a number of years. The finish on the neck profile is the original nitro lacquer gloss, worn smooth from decades of honest use. The original no-logo Fender hardshell case is included. The case has original working latches, leather handle and leather ends. The tolex is particularly clean, and there is only light wear on the leather.
