VOX AC30 Top Boost original 1965 mint condition. Hi, my name ist Kurt G. Sorry for my bad english ;. Since 30 years my job is repairing and modifiying tube amps for musicians. This amp does not ony look goo it sounds amazing , too. And it has just been serviced so it has got a killer sound and the amp is not noisy at all. If you look to the pictures you will se the changed parts. The Vox AC 30 gets pretty hot so it is no surprise that most electrolyte condensors have to be changed. The carbon resistors have to be changed if they are more than 20% out of tolerance. This bad resistors are substituted by good sounding and very quite 2 Watt metalloxid resistors. All six preamptubes are the original famous “BRIMAR ECC83″ made in England-they all still work great. When I got this amp it came with the original 4x EL84 (6BQ5) Mullard tubes and they are still working. For savety reasons the powertubes are new Sovteks EL84 (6BQ5). The Sovteks sound very good. There is no bias control potentiometer in a Vox AC30. The operation point is dependent to the cathode resistor. The original value is 47 ohms. With a 47ohm cathode resistor most of old VOX amp run to hot. That means that the powertubes have a short life. In this nice amplifier I changed the cathode resistor from 47Ohms to 82 Ohms. With the old 47Ohm cathode resistor the electric power consumption was more than 150 watts, with the 82Ohm resistor 110Watts (much better). Works excellent no problem at all what i did do was reducing the tremolo & vibrato speed a little bit. This nice VOX AC 30 comes with the original (die casting) tremolo/vibrato footswitch. The two celestion silver alnico 8Ohm speakers are stamped T-1088 which tells they were built in 1964. The speakers work excellent and they have not been reconed. The speakers are connected in series so the impedance is 16Ohm. The original “Woden” output transformer has 8 ohm and a 16 ohm output. The heart of an old VOX AC30 are the excellent “Woden” transformers. This amp has the following “Woden” transformer numbers. Power transformer 76852 HW (8/ 1965). Output transformer 76853 HW (8/1965). I received a couple of questions for detailed information about the speakers and the transformers. First of all: I bought this nice amplifier from a 76 year old neighbour who bougt this amp in 1966 brandnew in a lokal german musicshop and it took me a long time to confirm this man to sell his amp. This amp has hardly been used and stood years and years in a dry and warm room. So everything is original. The speakers are the highly sought after celestion silver alnicos with the fantastic PULSONIC cones stamped H /1777 and they are original full working, not reconed. The main power and output transformers are original woden 8/1965 and they have not been repaired. The choke seem to be a Parmeko (at that time Vox did use ALBION, WODEN and PARMEKO). I have a lot of pictures from this amp. If you are interested please tell me your e m a i l to send pics. One parcel:housing and speakers / second parcel: amp chassis.
