Gibson did a very limited run of only 25 of these very rare Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Black Widows. It is the real deal ebony fingerboard, and Gibson calls the color “widow burst”. When they were produced in 2009, 10 of them went overseas – some to Europe and some to Australia. Mine is #21 of 25. The serial number BW21 means Black Widow 21. The red headstock is very distinctive. The coolest thing about it is that the clear coat is tinted red, so although the diamond inlay and the binding are white, they appear to be red because of the red clear coat. Note the black widow spider on the back of the headstock. It is based on the 1957 Les Paul Custom reissue with the chunky neck profile. Though I prefer a slimmer neck profile, I have to say that the setup on this is beautiful and it plays like butter. It has a chambered body as well, so lighter than a typical Custom and the sustain is just amazing. It’s just a stunning instrument both visually, playability wise and sonically. The guitar has been rarely played, never left the house and I can’t find a single scratch on it, so it is as close to mint as you can get. There is a photo artifact on the shot of the back of the guitar, it looks like a raised round circle. That doesn’t exist on the guitar itself, it’s just some odd photo artifact. This guitar is for serious collectors only – you can’t get your hands on this guitar and from what I’ve been reading, people have been searching for years to no avail. So I’m giving it up to the right owner. The item “Very Rare Limited Edition Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Widow #21 of 25″ is in sale since Sunday, September 11, 2016.
