I have checked it over inside and out, and all of the parts and components are original as it came from Fender in 1965 except for three small details. 1- The string tree screw has been changed out for a shorter version (original with the original plastic spacer is included). 2- The high E string tuner has a broken shaft and has been replaced with a reissue (original broken tuner included). 3- The saddles were swapped with a set of original 1960’s Fender Mustang saddles. This was and still is a popular swap, and as you can see this guitar has been a player. Unfortunately, the original saddles are no longer with the guitar. The finish on the neck and body have aged quite a bit, as you can see. It has lacquer checking all over, marks, dings, etc. From years of play. The front of the body has faded to an almost Burgundy Mist color in the exposed areas and the back is largely un-faded. It appears that the factory never clear-coated the headstock, which would sometimes occur when in a rush to fill a custom order, and that is why the headstock color is still very dark red, un-faded, but has more flaking. The neck finish on the back has become pretty much non-existent from being played, but the maple has a very nice fame figuring pattern. She must have been a real beauty when fresh off the shelf in 1965! This is an earlier 1965 Jaguar and so it has more “Pre-CBS” traits like the back-bobbin pickups, the “mint green” nitrate pickguard, Kluson tuners, and L-Series neck plate. For these reasons it is considered by collectors to be a “Pre-CBS” Fender guitar. The hardware, controls, switches, pots, and pickups (including the wind coils) are all original. The frets are original and of course, do have some ware, but surprisingly not as much as you’d expect. I’m assuming lighter strings must have been used. This Jag is awesome, plays great, and sounds incredible! Since the photos, I have completed a full setup with a new set of 10’s and it’s ready to be enjoyed.
