1974 Gibson ES-150DC Natural Original Case OHSC
This guitar has great looks, feel, functionality, and tone. The ES-150DC is a true sleeper. Why pay more for a 335 when you can get an arguably better guitar for less? It has the same body shape, except it’s fully hollow, without even a post under the bridge, providing an inimitably resonant and rich tone perfect for jazz in the neck and a bridge that screams. How can you go wrong with a set of Patent No. The pickups alone are worth a fortune. The factory master volume, an extremely rare feature on a Gibson, provides you with a literally infinite array of tonal options. For example, when in the middle switch position, you can set the neck and bridge volumes to taste and control the volume to the amp independently. The neck profile is perfect to my hand, pencil thin at the nut for easy chording and nice and full towards the tenon for comfortable leads. This guitar is only going to gain value. A decade ago you couldn’t give these away! People are beginning to wisen up to the virtues of this quirky Gibson model. According to George Gruhn, Gibson made only 2,427 150DC’s between 1968 and 1975, and most of them were walnut. This finish is second in rarity only to the almost unobtainable cherry finish. The Guitar: This guitar is a truly exceptional example. It has a magical warmth in the neck position and a Telecaster-like clarity in the bridge. Beyond that, it is the easiest playing guitar I have ever played. The frets are like fretless wonders, and it can be set up to have super low action. In spite of this, bending is still completely manageable, in spite of what keyboard warriors might say. I cannot stress how effortless this guitar makes you feel. It is a step above most other guitars. When it comes to looks, I have this to say: there’s a reason natural finishes were an upcharge back in the day. The wood on this guitar is incredible. It shimmers in the light and bursts of birdseye and ripples of flame are scattered throughout. With the exception of vintage Schaller tuners, (a functional upgrade) this guitar is all-original, including the patent-stickered T-Tops (covers were taken off and resoldered at some point) and nylon-saddle ABR-1. The only issue with the guitar is that the fretboard appears to have been reset at some point, presumably during a refret and glued to another piece of rosewood. The inlays and most of the side dots were replaced at this time. There are some superficial cracks in the sides of the guitar but these are merely aesthetic. There is some wear on the neck and the back of the guitar. The frets are like fretless wonders, very low, flat, and smooth, allowing for effortless playing. The case is missing a latch but works fine. The item “1974 Gibson ES-150DC Natural Original Case OHSC” is in sale since Thursday, August 6, 2020.
