Sounds and looks incredible, but alas the chunkier 58 necks are not for me. The finish and factory aging on this guitar are stunning. The vintage cherry sunburst looks amazing and the top has just the right amount of flame in the center, fading off to a more plain top around the edges that really showcases the grain. The cherry in the finish really pops in the sunlight. The aged nickel parts and the finish checking on the top and head stock drive home the vintage vibe of this instrument. The Custom Buckers have the PAF tone you’re looking for. 91 – 1.00. There is no backstory that I know of, but the factory aging on this guitar is almost identical to the aging done to the Mark Knopfler 1958 Les Paul Standard which is the dead-on replica of Knopfler’s’58. The nicks and scrapes on the top match, as well as the faux crack behind the headstock and base of neck, and the wear to the back of the neck and body – all aging done at the Gibson Custom shop. I can’t find out why this’58 reissue’s factory aging matches up with the Knopfler artist model, but this is definitely your chance to own an outstanding version of a’58 with a master relic’ing job that typically goes on much high priced models. Guitar comes with original hard case (also factory “aged”) and goodies (COA, case key, tags and black switch backcover).
