I have owned this guitar for over a quarter of a century. Its always intrigued me as to what it is, but was unable to find any information about it. I once took it to the Gibson Custom Shop at their factory in Nashville. All they could say was Wow! Ive never seen one like that before. So, I took it to Gruhns and Carters, again drawing a blank. Then, there was some silly event at a hotel, trying. To get instant offers from people. I could see that for the sham it was, and left. Apart from taking these photographs, these are the only times its been out of its case since Ive owned it. And recently I saw an excellent Troglys YouTube video What is THAT! ? ! I finally got my answer as to what it is! Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom XPL. One day production run. The first of ten ever built. And one of eight known to still exist. Let me tell you about mine. Ill assume you are a serious collector, and are familiar with such rarities. Its since been delisted. That advert inspired me to offer my better condition instrument for sale. The history of mine is quite unique. It was the show guitar at the 1986 NAMM Show in Chicago. A friend of Bobbys bought it at the end of the show. My guitar went back to Rockford IL, and stayed with him for a while. Ive known Bobby for nearly 30 years now, and consider him a personal friend. Ive bought many instruments from him, but this is the prize of my collection. Since Ive owned it, it has not been played nor. Nor has it been cleaned or polished. Im certainly not desperate to sell, but with kids in college. I truly believe that this piece may become the holy grail of collectible guitars. Id say mint, you may say near mint. If I say near mint, you may say exceptionally fine, and youd be wrong. Looking at it today, Id definitely still say mint. But I can take it to George or Walt if you want their opinion. You have to pay their tab. Or make offer, which should read make [serious] offer. Previous known serial numbers were 541 thru 548. Until I unveiled mine. This serial number is 539, and it is the first one produced. Im very attuned to scam artists, and wont be taken advantage of by anyone. And neither will you, by dealing with me, as evidenced by. I treat people just as I expect to be treated. It will not be stored at my house. If youd like to fly or drive to Nashville, TN. Ill meet you, and we can do the transfer at my bank. Wire transfer is the only. I can store the guitar until the current situation improves. A small deposit secures it. The item “1986 Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom XPL.
