Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, well maintained, professionally setup, and very original. Featuring a vibrant original Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish, this Les Paul’s burst highlights the well-matched seams on the three-piece carved maple top. Tonally, the original patent stickered mini humbuckers in this Les Paul deliver a round sound with great definition and punch. A perfect blend of humbucker and single coil tonalities, the mini hum’s tonal properties are enhanced by the maple/mahogany body construction with both wooly bark and great treble articulation. Additionally, the mahogany neck seen only on earlier iterations of the model keeps the tonal profile inherently warmer and fuller. Acoustically, the instrument has healthy projection, and the tone is singing and sweet. The top end snaps and sparkles, while the low end stays tight and focused. We’ve had this Les Paul professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece mahogany neck has a notably slender C profile carve at the nut, quickly gaining plenty of meat and shoulder, filling out with ample chunk as you travel up the fretboard. 790″ deep at the 1st fret, graduating to 1.010″ at the 12th. The original wide/flat Gibson fretwire is intact, having been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime and currently showing no wear. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlay and the nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone, measuring 1 11/16 in width. The headstock has been fitted with a set of modern, reliable Grover Deluxe Kluson-style tuners with lightly aged green tulip buttons. These tuners perfectly match the footprint of the original gears and provide superior stability. The headstock has a small volute on the back as well as a clean Gibson logo and “Les Paul” silkscreen text on the face. The guitar did at one time experience a headstock fracture, professionally repaired both structurally and cosmetically, with gloss nitro lacquer overspray across the headstock joint and extending up the profile a bit and to the back of the headstock. The repair is invisible, smooth to the touch, and structurally reliable. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a wiring harness that retains all of the original CTS pots, dating to the 37th week of 1974. The original tone caps are intact, the solder joints are untouched, and both stock pickups are intact with the original patent number stickers on the baseplates. The original patent number ABR-1 bridge and chrome tailpiece are both present, along with the original quartet of reflector cap knobs. The Cherry Sunburst on the top is very bold, and the bass-side third of the top has light curly flame figuring. Lenty of dings and scuffs across the back and lower bout body edge, with s. Ome shallow pinhead-sized marks on the bass side of the top and light scuffing on the treble side of the pick path. The original black tolex hardshell case is included. This case retains the faint “Gibson” silkscreen on the lid, along with a couple stickers, and the case features all of its original latches and a viable handle.
