The body is not a print, but a real quilted maple top and alder back. The front is a single coil, and the only controls are volume and no tone. Instead, there is a coil tap switch on the rear PU. The rear PU is listed in the catalog as the GH-1G, which is widely used in other Grass Roots models, and it sounds much better than the sound I hear from other guitars. The fact that it’s attached directly to the body makes it a good match with this body, and the sound, especially when distorted, has a clear core, rich expressiveness, and a strong presence. The front PU is also a GS-1G, and other models have a pretty sharp and good sound, so I’m not particularly surprised, but if you mix it with a coil tap on the rear, it becomes a surprisingly delicate and beautiful sound. However, when using only the rear coil tap, the power is quite low and it is not very practical. Grassroots guitars are simply copies of higher-end models, and are aimed at beginners at a low price. It doesn’t use particularly good parts, and I don’t think the sound is worth discussing. The body and PU layout fit perfectly and are an excellent match. Some people replace the PU with something like Duncan to improve the sound, but I think you can get satisfactory performance from this guitar even if you leave it as it is in its original condition. The front strap pin is around the 10th fret. When you put the strap on and release both hands, the area around the neck joint will be in the center of your body. Therefore, there is no stress on your left arm when you play, and you can concentrate all your attention on your fingertips. This kind of thing is a matter of guitarist’s preference, but it is rare to find a guitar that is this easy to play, and I think it is a model that can be highly praised considering its good sound.
